82nd Goodwood Members Meeting

Goodwood never disappoints. There’s something magical about the Members’ Meeting – the sound, the smell, the camaraderie. This year was no exception, and I was honoured once again to take part as Captain of House Darnley.

Sliding into the seat of a Mini 1275 GT for the Win Percy Trophy was a first for me. I had never raced one before, but co-driving with Ryck Turner made it all the more fun. We qualified eighth, and while the car might be small in stature, it brought massive smiles and plenty of sideways moments. That’s the charm of these Group 1 touring cars – raw, mechanical, and full of personality.

In the Gordon Spice Trophy, I had the pleasure of driving a Rover 3500 SD1. A very different beast compared to the Mini, but equally nostalgic. Sharing the track with Camaros, Capris and other giants of the era reminded me just how diverse and entertaining touring car racing used to be. Every lap was a battle – just the way we like it.

What really stands out at Goodwood is the spirit. It’s competitive, but there’s also a great sense of celebration. A celebration of motorsport in its purest form. There’s no data screens or radio chatter – just your instincts, the car, and the crowd.
